But Shirley Dean says it doesn’t have to be that way. Dean, a North Nampa Residents Association and North Nampa Urban Renewal Agency board member, wants north Nampans to attend a meeting tonight that will focus on refining and expanding the association. Part of the effort is to determine what residents believe are the challenges facing their neighborhoods. Sandy Gill, representing Northwest Regional Facilitators, will speak to residents about forming several neighborhood "zones." The plan, still in its early stages, would take north Nampa as a whole and -- using railroad tracks and main streets as guides -- divide it into sections. |
After the zones are established, a representative from each would be appointed
to the association board. The process, Dean said, will alleviate a major
challenge faced by the association: It’s difficult to determine what’s really
on north Nampa residents’ minds. "Each specific neighborhood has a specific thing they have in mind," Dean said. "We want to have representation from each area. We’re getting ready to budget and we need to know where we’re going to go next." Nampa Finance Director Todd Bunderson said the process will fit well into a city-wide strategic plan. Bunderson said the plan has been worked on informally for some time, but the city is considering bringing in a consultant to put the pieces together. "A lot of the work is getting input so we can get a sense of direction -- from neighborhoods, for example," Bunderson said. "We’re looking for something that will guide us in terms of priorities. This is a good way to do that." |
